Default Dragster steering wheel comes off while racing

I believe I would be needing a change of clothing!!!

We don’t think this is a case of “Jesus take the wheel,” and the driver just letting a higher power have the control. It’s more a case of “I’ve got this, I’ve got this. Launch! Oh crap, this is not how a steering wheel is supposed to work! I need a new race suit.” At least, that’s the dialogue we imagined going through this guy’s head when he loses the steering wheels to his funny car.
This video is from a few years ago, but it’s still hilarious to watch. Especially since it didn’t end in a tragic way. A nitro methane drag racer pulled up to the start line. Locked the finish line in his sights, and launched hard. Then the unthinkable happens. His steering wheel comes clean off. Something you definitely don’t want to happen when you are trying to pilot a 7,000 horsepower missile.

What you are seeing here is a case of when equipment goes wrong. We can’t think of a lot of other places that you’d want something to fail less than here.
The best part of the short clip is the look in the drivers eye’s after he safely gets the car to stop. He’s just staring at the steering wheel in his hands and looks to be thinking, “How did this even come off?” It’s just the look of utter bewilderment. Priceless.

That would be enough racing for the day. hahaha. I would probably need a new racing suit after that one.

luckily those rides are only a few seconds long, but that would still be very nerve wracking to say the least
