I race on the street either on empty roads late at night or on the interstate only going 20-30mph above the speed limit.

I know its dumb but the closest track is about 2 hours away.

Wow, that is the RAW TRUTH! It is the same reason I detail my car so much, or put a 1000% effort into everythingI do. To get the attention, to beat my chest and say... SEE ME, SEE HOW GOOD I AM, SEE HOW NICE OF THING I HAVE, AM I NOT ABAD PERSON, etc... I just had an Epiphany!!!

So THAT's why I'm doing what I do.

Heck yeah I race, and I love it too! I don't really car, in the city, on the sidelines. Yes, it's better to race away from a city if you can, but how often to you just happen to pull up on a guy in the middle of nowhere? You'd have to arrange it, so they're probably a friend, so you likely have a pretty good expectation of the outcome, unless they happen to be extremely similar cars/engines etc.

The rush of street racing in the city? I'm afraid it's too alluring. I try and be careful, as in I'm not darting into oncoming traffic, or taking turns at unmanageable speeds. But, yes, I will street race, and yes I do it in environments that cannot be controlled, and are inherintly "unsafe". But, I try to be as smart about it as I can, and try not to get caught. I keep it off of pedestrian-filled streets, and as deserted as possible, but this is when it happens anyways, late night, downtown.

I tried to get a 3800 SC pontiac to race me a few months ago. This particular intersection was bad tho, after 300' the road slims down to one lane on a bridge. So either someone (preferably the loser) woahs up, and allows the other person to get in the left lane, or the person in the right lane (me, at my discresion) hits the wall. Luckily, (for me) the pontiac chickened out. Is it bad of me to feel better because he chickened out? perhaps.... but, I'm not the one that chickened out, and I would have been the one in the wall if my car wasn't fast enough.

Granted, I know how stupid I am in doing it, but as far as I'm concerned, I have not yet lost control of a vehicle I have owned. Racing, Cruisng, whatever. I have pushed plenty of limits, and gotten very close to the edge. But then again as 'they' say, if you're not driving on the edge of your control, you're not driving properly.

Because I know the limits of my ability and my vehicle's ability, I am able to keep fairlysafe, even in situations one might consider dangerous.

I apologize if this seems egotistical... but I don't race for my ego, I race for the rush... When possible, I keep it off heavily trafficed roads, or at a track, unfortunately this is not always possible.

Too Fast, Too Fatal: An Insider's Look at Street Racing
By Nate Chapnick, Contributor

For most of us, the adrenaline rush that comes from watching Vin Diesel speed away in a souped-up Honda Civic coupe[b] is enough to satisfy our appetite for high speed. But for many, street racing is more than a Hollywood thriller; it's a way of life. Whether you're a full-fledged street-racing junkie or a first-time car owner jumping into the aftermarket scene, there are a few things you should know.

High-Speed Hobby
Many young drivers admit to being stopped at a red light and feeling the urge, maybe for just a second, to stomp on the gas pedal and see if their car can outrun the other driver's in the adjacent lane. But if you happen to end up next to Eddie Thurman, a 22-year-old bamboo grower from South Jersey, New Jersey, don't underestimate his Kia sedan. It boasts a reported 438 horsepower thanks to the aftermarket turbo kit he installed.

Sometimes Thurman and his friends go to the nearby track, but they prefer street racing because the track charges a fee and doesn't let drivers choose who they race. Plus, many drivers crave the adrenaline rush they get from racing on the street.

Most of Thurman's friends also race. They enjoy fixing up cars, modifying them and testing their speed, but they never race for money. They also disapprove of racing in high-traffic zones and on highways. Thurman and his friends organize meetings on empty streets and in rural areas. When asked if he thinks street racing is dangerous, Thurman replies, "We race smart.

I watched the Dr. Phil Show regarding Street Racing and it was truly sad - the loss of life, the trama on the families, and those involved in the tragedies.

After watching the show, it does make you think and it puts it into the same category as Drunk Driving. I one time, no one thought twice about someone driving drunk or drinking while driving, but now we're all against it.

I would hate to kill or seriously hurt someone while I was playing around and getting a cheap thrill. Again, after looking into the eyes of a mother or worse (for me), the tearfull eyes of a man who loss their kid to a person street racing, I will restrict my racing to "Test & Tune" runs at the local race track. I survived well being two or three minutes slower when I drove my 4-cyl Honda Accord for years, I can to the same with my SS now.
