Car Show Attendance
I've gotten to where I just prefer a cruise in. No entry fee, no judging to get mad about... just cruise up, hang out, leave. It seems like there is a whole different mentality of everyone involved when its a cruise in and not a show.

So ... you're the one stalking me all this time, eh, RJ? lol

The last few years, I have NOT attended ANY cruise nights ... and car shows have been limited, with the exception, of course, of the gathering I put together in July the last 3 years ... and shows/cruise nights I've encountered on my road trips ... Binghamton NY being a great example from last year's road trip.
I'm hoping to change that in 2011. Near the end of 2010, I started attending cruise nights a bit more, after going to Binghamton and at least one other cruise night during my August road trip. I then realized how much I missed it ... especially the cruise nights.
So ... for 2011 ... I'll post some cruise nights I plan to frequent ... along with 4 "meet'n'greets" I'm putting together ... plus my road trip, of course, which, while I'll head to the northwest US (via Route 66 first), will include a stop at the GM and MC Nationals in PA.
*shrugs*
I had stopped attending cruise nights/shows ... because of the "cliqueishness" of some owners ... and the fact that my cars are far from show cars. But, it is the people that should have kept me going back ... not the "politics" or "cliques" that drove me away....

Hey Cort, it's great to see you back posting!!
I definitely agree with some of the cliquieness and politicalness of the shows. And how are you going to go to the northwest and hit up PA on teh way out there.... don't you live in Illinois

I have been to some shows that focus on newer cars, and again the montes seemed to be in an awkward place- the honda/mitsubishi/etc guys didn't care about anything other than 4 cylinder cars- and the camaro/mustang/vette/firebird guys didn't care about anything other than V8 cars/trucks. Definitely seem to get more interested people at these, but it still seems to segregate into two distinct groups with the montes (and other similar cars) left in the middle.
The only car show I didn't find this at at all was the ultimate mymonte meets I went to (obviously because these were focused on 5th/6th gen montes). The only other monte show I went to was focused heavily on 1st-4th gens (many of whom seemed to strongly dislike 5th+ gens because they were a 'disgrace to the monte name' due to FWD and V6's).
That's why I mostly stick to cruise ins and small local meets now- and I try and go either with a group of my friends, or with a local car club so I know there will be at least some other similar vehicles (I feel stupid if my car is the only new car there). The atmosphere also seems more laid back- no one is overly worried about image since there are no trophies- and people seem to generally mingle more instead of sticking with their car clique (ie muscle cars etc).
I'm exactly the same way. I used to go to a lot of shows with the monte and it seemed like all the attention and awards went to either muscle cars and hot rods or brand new show room stock cars (ie brand new vette, camaro, viper, etc). It always seemed like no matter how much you had done, there just wasn't much interest- all the older guys seemed to mostly stick to just looking at the old cars, and wouldn't hardly even take a peek under the hood of a newer car walking by unless it was a new camaro or something like that.
