Thank you for posting this. It reminds me when I was searching for my first used Monte back in 2003. I went to this dealer from their ad in the paper where I saw a used 2002 Monte SS for $19,239. I test drove it and was pleased with it but all the sales person kept asking me is what amount can I afford monthly. I gave him a number and he tried negotiating the price of the car thru the monthly payment. It ended up being like a 7 year loan for a used car! Which ends up being way more than the price of the car if you did the math. I said forget about the monthly payment, just how much for the car? He could not give me a price, just the monthly payment. I got so mad, I walked out. Since I never really knew how much the price of the Monte he was going to charge me. Sad because I really liked it. It was a berry red Monte SS with grey leather interior. Which I still like to own to this day. But by the stupid way the salesman tried to work me , ruined the sale.

Took my dad's 2002 LS to the dealer because it kept throwing the cat converter inefficiency code. I read that it could be replaced under an extended emissions warranty for this car. They put the car on the lift, saw it was an aftermarket cat, lowered the car immediately and charged us $30. Dad had the car like 2 weeks at the time and it was 100% stock, so I didn't get under the car to see if it was the factory converter or not (especially after reading about problems with the factory cat), before taking it in. Of course I looked then to make sure they weren't lying to us in addition to ripping us off, but they were right, an aftermarket cat was neatly welded into place of the stocker. I think they shouldn't have charged us anything.
After this I found out that aftermarket cats usually throw the code, so I haven't worried about it since (great fuel mileage, no driveability issues).
