I've never replaced an automatic shifter before.
Does anyone know if it's possible to change my original out to this?

Yes its possible. I dont remember how, but I changed the one in my last monte.

The bottom part of that **** will bolt to the shifter "shaft" then the top (round part) will act as the button, youll push down on it then select your gear.

EDIT: I had the same style of ****...

 

I swapped mine for the leather-wrapped one from a bonneville.

It's the same T-Shaped shift ****, but it's so much nicer than the stock plastic one.

 

Same and totally agree. The leather shifter is a quick, easy and nice mod. You can get a black one from Bonnevilles and Grand Ams (have to watch, Pontiac had BLACK and they had a dark gray in bad light that looked black).
