Default 85 ss Monte Carlo cut off when driving

I have a 1985 ss Monte Carlo it runs good for about 30min then cuts off when I'm driving I have to drop it in neutral and pat the gas to start it back. When I get it cut back on it jerks really bad when I give it gas and try's to cut back off. Then when I get it home and let it set for a hour or to it runs good for about 30 more min's. Anybody out there that can tell me what might be wrong???

Sounds like a dirty/bad fuel filter..
How many miles on it? What motor is in it?

I'm sure someone else will chime in with other ideas.

It has 139,000 miles on it ,with 305 under the hood. How can I check to see if the fuel pump is bad

Talking

Disconnect the fuel line at the carbureator and check the flow.. Just be sure to bump the starter and not crank it fully.
Or gas may end up every where..
If,
It just trickles out..
Then the pump is bad or the fuel filter is clogged.
