Default Track Light on + Headlights Cut off

Driving yesterday and last night and my track light came on for no reason at all. Then I was using my bright lights frequently last night and my headlights cut off. These two things happened a couple of times last year. Friday night I was driving down the road and all of a sudden, all the lights on the dash came on like the car restarted or something. the car never died, just the lights came on on the dash. I have a 2005 Monte Carlo and I was wondering if anybody has had this happen. Does anybody know what the problem is? I think it has to be electrical or a switch issue.

Thanks,
Josh

Josh,

I'm just guessing at this but it almost sounds like a problem with the computer? Something is telling it to act like the car's just been started.

Jster, I had a 2003 LS that was doing something similar, making the brights turn off. I found out it only happened when I had the brights on, and if I clicked the brights off and on again they would work fine. It ended up being the switch or t/sig / bright / wiper lever switch was bad. They replace that and never had a problem again. I should also mention that I didn't have any problems with the dash lights ever, but this fixed the problem of the headlights just dieing seemingly for no reason. You should have warranty left per the 3 year thing, but if you're over the 36 k miles they'll ususally just do it and fudge the mileage. They did that for me when my radiator was cracked.

Good Luck on the dash light thing, wish I could help you out there!

I'm having that issue. It's probably related to the High Beam Switch. Mine is. Mine won't cancel the High Beams every time I give the stalk a tug. I can't figure it out right now ... I'm still working on getting the damn plugs changed ... for crying out loud!

i had the problem when i first bought my car, but i figured out what it was. i think there should eb a feelable click when goign from high to low? mine doesn't, it just get stiff. i wasn't pulling it hard enough, and the lgihts would actually go completly out. if i hit the high beams real quick or a bump the right way htey came right back on. as long as i pull the turn signal all the wayb ack, it works fine.

My 02 with 45K miles on it just started doing it. Part # for the switch is 88964581- price $483.00. After labor I'm looking at $800 to have it done at the dealer.
