I agree. The badge doesn't look right. But the passenger side air bag cover doesn't seem to be fitting properly either.

Sarge, I think that's because the 5th gen Monte was never meant to be a performance car of any kind. It leaned more toward the luxury side of "luxury sport".

Oh I understand that Lou. I still like to have a little more information to look at such as oil pressure and whatnot. I could do w/o the voltometer (trans temp would be more useful for me) but I definitely like to see an oil pressure gauge, which it seems not many cars seem to have from the factory. That's usually the first thing I look at (that and the coolant temp gauge) anytime I hear a funny noise.

Remember the '70s and '80s when almost every car had only a speedometer and gas gauge? Nothing but red idiot lights for temp, oil and volts. I hated that and ended up installing a few aftermarket gauges in those cars.

V8 Camaros (at least 1970 and up) typically had oil pressure, tach, coolant temp, and amp meter (voltometer from 74+). Most other cars had minimal gauges, but my Z has a lot of information displaying on the dash. Those gauges aren't the most accurate but they're there.

I defintely prefer having guages over idiot lights. Even if the car is not a performance car. I check my guages all the time. I want to see the problem happening and take action before it's too late. By the time the idiot light comes on, you're already screwed.

You hit the nail right on the head Lou. I feel the same way. As soon as something doesn't feel right or sound right (and I am VERY much in tune with my cars so I notice even the smallest things instantly) my eyes go straight to the gauges.

Just fuel and coolant temp and I don't think they even have a tach (some might though). They certainly don't have oil pressure or voltometer. The 150 mph speedometer should have been a dead giveaway as well. They used a 98+ Z28 gauge (which work perfectly with the LS1 PCM of course)
the 5th gens, have the coolant temp, tach, speedo, and fuel gauge which i think is kind of gay, i wish they would have more than that, but i can always make the old tray under the radio and make it for gauges

I think I am going to end up taking the gauges out of my 86 and put in some better gauges. Tach, oil press, voltage, fuel pressure, gas gauge, trans temp maybe?
