2009 Malibu vs. 1959 Bel Air

Big Difference between '59 & '65...
There was a big Difference in the Frame of a '59 & the new version of '65!
I know -as I "treeded" a '65 SS (street racing. I'm bad.) after thrashing a
Camaro. I was trying to slow down & the '65 went into a "shimmie" & I did
about (3) 360's before hitting an Oak tree dead on @ apx. 85 mph...
Well, the tree hit me back afterwards! I lived to tell & survived w/a cut
on the head. The Oak Tree didn't make it! Didn't even fracture the
windshield. I did have a factory Lap safety belt on.
I rebuilt the '65 & it came out even better! I think the test w/'65 would come out much different as the ole' '59 had the X frame -which gave you no protection on the side of the car.
Wonder what would happend if they tested the '09 Boo against a '76
Impala w/the Big Honkin' Bumpers ? You could have a Picnic on those
bumpers.

In 6 years...
6 years. If They do that to an Impala in 2015 - I will be on the phone
(If we have them then...) calling someone!
Mike: How are you doing?
-Mark.

i just hope that the damn saftey people ( i dont remember who taz said they are) dont turn this moron test into a yearly ritual.... think im pissed now? i think i'd make national headlines with what i would do to anyone who thinks this is a "good test".... its not, because it does not put the car in a realistic situation.... wanna run a malibu into a prius ( prius had those faulty brakes, lol) or a mack truck go right ahead, but i do beleive that little "stunt" was designed with sales in mind....

yha, thats the one!
im just sooooo glad that they are proving im going to be safe in my new malibu sedan if i ever head on one of those old, heavy, gas guzzeling, emissions spewing, and downright EVIL 59 chevys! i just HATE those damn classic car buffs & their want to " preserve" those unsafe hazards on wheels.... oh, btw, i just found out im adopted & my real dad is ralph nader lol.

Next let's talk a collapsing steering column. So the driver won't be impaled in the vent of a front end crash.
Shock absorbers in the front bumper to absorb part of the front end collision. Sure a 50lb all steel bumper is going to provide protection a plastic bumper won't. If the '59 bumper had the same absorbers mounted to it the '09 bumper has I'll bet the '59 bumper will proect you better then they want you to be aware of.
The '59 Chevy is also mounted to a fairly new for it's time designed frame. Like the '58 the frame is prone to twist because it's made in an X design. Mount the '59 body even to a 1988 Monte frame and I'll bet side impact protection just improved 100%.

Seriously it is sad that they felt that we really weren't aware of how much safer new cars are.
