2008 Top Safety Picks from IIHS
By REX ROY, AOL AUTOS
[:-]

Toyota Tundra
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded thirty-four 2008 model vehicles the Top Safety Pick rating, more than double the number of vehicles that earned the rating in 2007. Eligible vehicles traditionally included all cars, minivans and small or midsize SUVs, while this year, small and large pickups were also eligible to earn the IIHS's top rating.

To pick the winners, the IIHS evaluates the each vehicle's combined performance of three individual crash tests. For 2008,
Ford Motor Company stands out as the manufacturer with the most vehicles on the list with eight winners, helped by the performance of its Volvo models. Honda, including vehicles from its luxury division Acura, produced seven top picks.

Moderator `Taz, you have a good `eye, and know your cars : )
I was surprised that there were not more GM vehicles on
the list, but I am still researching to see what `if any were
crash tested. I was searching to see if the Impala SS, or Lt's
were tested, but I could not find @ this time : )
I have it on my list to search later : )
I know that the 2000 -2007 Monte Carlo's had
a five star ***** Front End Crash Rating,
and a four star **** side impact Rating.

i don't buy cars to crash them, i buy them to drive them (yeah, i know, accidnets can happen to anybody, anytime). however, i read about all the cars i was considering, and even read of people having accidents in the monte carlo. everybody said the crumple zones work just like they should and the air bags deployed perfectly. good, safe automobiles

Hi Duane,
You may not buy a car to crash `it, but unfortunately there are to
many other drivers on the roads that just don't seem to care.
When walking in a major parking lot, like a mall, check out the conditon
of some cars that are out driving on the same roads as you.
Bald tires, parts hanging off them etc.
I don't live in a populated area, but when I go to big cities, or
high traffic cities like Melbourne, or Orlando, it's freak'in crazy.
Everyone seems to drive like they are NASCAR drivers : )
I've unfortunately have seen to many bad traffic accidents : (
I'm glad that auto's are getting safer...Now, we just have to work
on the drivers : ) Peace Out..[8D]
I'm think'in about gett'in a Crash Car.
Don't have to worry about door ding's, bumper smasher's, etc : )
