Default 1982 Corvette problem, most likely heater core

My dad has a 1982 Corvette. We just discovered that coolant was dripping from under the passenger side of the dash board onto the floor board, as well as from under the car.

It was pooled up bad on the carpet... luckily we had sham-wows at the ready to sop up the mess.

Anyway, after some research, we came to the conclusion that it is most likely the heater core that is the source of our leak.

We know that we can take the cheaper route and just bypass the heater core all together, and give up heat (which we never use anyway).

Or we can repair it properly and replace the whole unit, which is not expensive, but the labor IS!

Does anyone know: if the entire dash must be removed to access the busted heater core?
how long the work should take?
how much the work should cost?
