LT did stand for "Luxury Touring" at one time.Camaro had a type LT in the 1970's and it had an upscale interior and badging.My guess is with the 1LT,2LT and 3LT packages on the 2006 Monte Carlo,GM wanted the top of the line model to stand out,so chose LTZ rather than 4LT.

I didn't get the side air bags though.
Can anyone else think of another option the LTZ didn't get?
