Cool What will I need to do?

I have a 01 monte ss... I would like to put a different motor in
The motor is out of a 05 grand prix will I have to change the wireing harness? Or will it slap right in they are both. 3.8 w/o supercharger

The motor in the 2005 Grand Prix's is the Series III

So that means you will probably have to get a new harness, not sure if the trans mounts up.

Why do you want to change motors? There really is not much for an increase in horsepower and I think all they changed with the manifolds to prevent a small issue

EDIT: Also, there is electric throttle control on the Series III so I'm assuming there will be a bit of modification needed to make that work

Forgot to ask that I just figured if he wanted to change them out his must be blow or have something majorly wrong with it. I thought the series were different but I didn't know for sure.

welcome to the site. The 05 motor is a little different and IMO be more trouble then it's worth. If your replacing it because your motor is junk i would just look for a series 2 motor. You should be able to find one easily enough.

I would stick with a Series II motor. More plentiful, more available performance mods, and you wouldn't need to modify or change any wiring. Putting a series III motor in would be more trouble than it's worth.

The 01 is a series 2, the 05 is a 3

05 montes still had series II in the lts and the series II supercharged in the ss whereas 05 grand prixs got the series III

the tranny should be rather easy to come by though
