Default weight of 1988 monte ss

started out at just over 3500, took ac and heat stuff out, put light weight racing seat (1) drivers side, those stock buckets are heavy, put battery in trunk, no weight saving but put more weight in back, took rear seats out, took out some braces and brackets...... 1400 lbs on the rear tires, 1800 on frt, 3200lbs total. thought about carbon fiber hood, but they are 1000.00 forget that.

this monte is used for road racing, two inch dropped spindles in front, umi 2" lowering springs in rear, 295/50r15 mickey thompson in rear, 225/60r15 accelera in frt, the front is 1 1/4 lower than rear. the motor started as a ZZ430 fast burn heads, upped the cam .497 ex .480 i 232/232 duration at .058 108 lsa howard hyd roller, use 1.55 SS rockers on exhaust side to help the ex side, the I/E ratio needed a little help, rough idle. schonefield long tube headers for metric stock race cars with Dport heads. took vac advance off distributor, have a screw adjustment in place of vac advance that one turn of the **** equals 1 degree advance or retard depending of which way turned, speedway 20.00. for some reason this motor runs better without vac advance.

Default Bump steer

1988 monte, this is what i did to help bumpsteer, used a 1990 camaro centerlink, had to shorten outter tierod 1 1/2", had to tap 1" of hew threads on outters, and inner shortened about 1/2", total shortened up tie rods about 2" and dropped them down. when you look at front end the tie rods are perfectly level with the ground, helped a lottttt.

Im guessing your running an HEI distributor?

Im also guessing your running the1.5 rockers on the intakes as well?
Could be the reason for the rough idle and or may run lean on the upper end and either detonate/float out the lifters?..

Just a guess..
Since theres no info on carburation .. Jets/power/flow or valves sizes etc...

Don't forget to post some pics when your able!

Default monte tract road racer

the motor started out as a ZZ430 which is a ZZ4 350 cubic inch with fast burn heads, with gm hot cam 24502586 hydraulic roller 218I/228E .525I/.525E 112 LSA this is with 1.6 rockers.. 430 rated horsepower.

i went with the howard roller because it had 480I/480E with 232I/232E and 108 LSA , i used 1.5 rockers on the intake and 1.55 rockers on exhaust, this gave a .497 lift on the exhaust because the exhaust needed a little help on I/E ratio (intake to exhaust). this cam has a lot more duration than the chevy cam and the 108LSA gives it a really rough idle, the 112LSA chevy cam didn't have enough lope for me. this cam sounds nasty, i like it. i would of went wilder but i need new valve springs for that, winter project, then i will put in a really wild cam. shift at 6000

carb is holley 670 avenger, set up by a good carb shop, no lean issues

Default distributor

this is an HEI distributor, just took the vac advance off and put on this really neat little screw device from speedway, one turn of the **** give one degree advance of retard and only 20.00.

i was playing with the timing one day took it out for a run and it ran great, came back and noticed vac advance wasn't hooked up, hooked up vac advance took for run and it didn't run as good without vac advance. so got rid of vac advance. this motor just runs better without the vac advance and i like the adjuster thing. run 17 initial 34 total advance. every motor runs differant

there is a abandoned subdivision about a half mile away with about a 1000 ft almost staight aproach (slight curve) with a big cul-d-sac to check out my cornering. so i sort of have my own little test tract, and not on the street.. cannot afford those tickets
