Default Power Windows Not Working-HELP! 😎

Hey everyone,
I am the second owner of a 2001 Monte Carlo SS with only 6300 miles. I really like it and everything works but the electric windows. They were working on and off and now neither works. I replaced the master switch in the driver’s side door, but nothing changed. With the low amount of use on this car, I don’t believe the wiring, regulators or motors are worn out. I read that it may be in the Retained Access Power system (Breaker/Relay), but the windows don’t work when the car is running either.

Has anyone had a similar issue? I really like the car, but this is really frustrating. Please help.

Ron

I would recommend changing fuses. If those are good, you may need to get a volt meter and start checking voltages at different connectors.

Default Similar issue

I'm having a similar issue with my 01. The passenger window works just fine but the driver window won't do anything. I popped the motor off and it would go down but not up. I replaced the switch and now have nothing. Not going down or up. I don't have a multimeter so I'm borrowing one tomorrow to try and see where the failure is at. If everything I read is correct the dark blue and brown wires are the power and negative for both up and down. If they're getting power then it is the window motor that's bad. Can anyone confirm this?

On the GM cars that I have had experience with that the windows are not working if the passenger side works but the driver doesn't then it is most likely the switch.
Some times you can replace them with a defective switch too I have seen that happen. Check rock auto they might give you more options for switches ( you usually get what you pay of r on these too)
If the motor has gone bad it could be because the Car is an outside car and the rain water may have gotten to the motor.

The car has sat for the better part of 5 years and at least the past year the window was down. The motor would spin down but not up with it detached from the window I pulled a used switch from a local pick and pull and now it does nothing. The passenger side goes down with either the old or new driver side switch

To follow up, I had to have the power window motor and regulator assemblies replaced in both doors for about $400. Evidently age, not just amount of use can make the motors fail. No doubt planned obsolescence. Anyway, they work like new. Definitely worth the cost for a loaded 2001 Monte SS with 7300 miles.

This entire regulator and motor assembly are not that hard to change yourself for future reference. I changed my drivers side not long ago with my wife’s help in a half a day. Rock Auto is the best place that I have found for parts on these older cars. I just bought both rear strut assembly’s AC Delco brand for around $300 dollars. I’m going to replace them next month sometime. I keep buying parts and storing them, I need another 100,000 miles out of my car. Then we’re both going to retire.😊
