Default newbie, common problem? question

Hi. i just got a z34 1996 montecarlo with the 3.4 v6 motor. it is in great shape and low miles for an 96 its got only 122k. The only thing is, I have a oil leak from the motor.. i have a friend that has the lumina version of this car with the 3.1? motor and he said that it is common problem for this car to leak from the intake man. gasket. and that maybe that is were mine is leaking from. all though mine is not the same engine.. do you guys know about this problem leak on this cars? i have not been able to find out where is it that the car is leaking from.. im going to wash the motor and then try to figure it out.. thanks in advance for your help...

I have a 98 Buick century with a 3.1 and the intake manifold gaskets are a common problem with those engines. I've had them replaced in my Buick and my 3.8L Monte Carlo. So i would assume the 3.4 has the same issue. They're made with cheap plastic. Hopefully somebody with a 3.4 will chime in here to confirm.

After you clean the engine you might be able to detect where the leak is by looking for fresh oil on the engine. If not, you can put a UV dye in the crankcase that will illuminate under a black light. Also, make sure your pcv system is working properly. Excessive crackcase pressure will push oil out past the gaskets.

I had a 1999 Grand Am with the 3.4 engine. The 3.4 engine is well known for having leaky lower intake manifold gaskets. Had that happen to mine. If you have a professional fix it, you'll be in for an expensive bill. Because they remove the old gasket, and put in a new one.
But I've seen others on here that said they simply tightened down the bolts and the leak stopped.

Default Hi just joined

Hi I'm new to this site and thought I would give it a try, I just bought my first monte Carlo at a very cheap price and of course it has some problems my first agenda to fix is the throttle, for some reason when I turn it on and I tap on the gas it feels like I'm drowning the engine than after a little while it drives ok but it also has very crappy acceleration and it drives slow almost feel sad for the car, only once has the car actually hauled *** other than that it drives pretty slow highest any suggestions?? Please help
