My first name is Gil, I'm mid to late 50's, who really cares at this point? I was given a real clean 1997 Monte Carlo, first one I've ever owned. Mid 70's I had a buddy who owned a 70 with a 454, nice and fast, so fast we outran the cops one night with it. Always been a Chevelle guy but some how wound up with a 68 455 4sp Cutlass. Also have a 04 Silverado 4x4 and a 75 ridged shovel. Im a mechanic/fabricator at a west coast race car shop baby sitting about ten stockcars. Want to make this Monte Carlo my daily, spiff it up a bit. Thanks, I'll be asking a bunch of questions so bear with me

Hello and Welcome to the MCF!
A cherry 97, that is awesome, some people have lucked into some low mile extra clean Montes. You car is 20 now, lol. dang time passes us by. Don't know how, but it does. I'm 60 now, , don't feel any older than 85 with a 25 year old heart. Time does march on, sad to say.
But with age comes lifes experiences, see you are a fabricator. The guy who is expected to engineer solutions for the crazy WTH how did that happen situations. And we need it back in 5 hours. Not a bad job, being a mechanical hero!
At least the Monte you have is one that is the 2nd most popular here on the forum. They are known as 5th Gen's. The 2000-2005 are 6th gen's and the 06-07 are 7th Gen's. as to who has the best looking design is a subject of friendly contention here on the forum. You 5th Gen's think yours is for some reason the last good looking Monte "NASCAR" style. While we 6th Gen's revel in our wind tunnel designed slick, sleek aerodynamic futuristic looking Monte's. So you will be able to glean answers to your questions from the 5th gen. 2nd place guys... When you can, post a photo of your 97, lets see what you have going for yourself. Again, Welcome bro!!
