hey wasup everyone thanks for the welcome. Well i took my car to the shop and the guy told me basically everything that i had found out on the forum. Well he gave me an estimate of 900 dollars to replace the cat, fuel filter, wires, and the plugs. What do you guys think about the price he gave me??
#23
thats an ok price, mostly due to the plugs & wires being a time consuming job. the entire upper intake has to be removed, along with alot of the other stuff on top of the engine. the CAT can also be a pain to replace due to rusted parts.

Ok cool i understand the cat may be the hardest job but i called my familys' machanic and he told me he would do the spark plugs, wires and fuel filter for a total of $45. Killer price. He also told me that i might not have a bad cat since my cars is not losing power it may just be the oxygen sensor but i am still getting the po300 code. So if it is the cat what replacement cat do you guys recommend getting I got all busch platinum plugs for the car and waiting for the wires to come in they had to order them didn't have them in stock.

Take those bosch plugs back and go get some ac delco or autolites. Like I said in the PM I sent you, these engines do not like bosch plugs. People have had problems with the bosch plugs, especially in the GM 60* v6s. $45 is a great price to do the plugs seeing as how it is a good 1-2 hour job.

okk cool yea i dint think about the pm you sent me about the plugs. Well looking at the autolite spark plugs on advance auto parts now and they have autolite double platinum spark plugs and acdelco have regular platinum plugs. so i would say go with the acdelco. .

well, you can go for an OEM direct replacement part, but suprisingly many aftermarket catalitic converters are less money for a better product. check out summit racing:

or jegs for some good options. i dont remember what diameter the exaust pipes are on these cars, but personally i would do an aftermarket cat along with an off the parts store shelf $40 thrush turbo muffler, and just run a single exaust. that way you open up the exaust in the process of repairing the plugged cat.

On a z34 the downpipe is supposed to be 2.5" diameter but I would bet it is somewhere in between 2.5" and 2.25". If you got a 2.5", the exhaust shop should have no problem getting it to work, even if the diameter is a bit less than that of the new cat. A magnaflow should work pretty well for you, they are good quality cats.
