New member.. no Monte though ... :-(
Hey guys, nice place you got here! I'm still kinda exploring options for a project/fun car and am really exploring my options as I am planing on only having one. The cars in the running right now (In no particular order) are the...
2001 Mustang Cobra
1990-92 Mustang GT
91-92 Z-28 (5.7)
Camaro RS (5.0, 5 Speed... would look at an 350 6 speed swap)
GTA Trans am (5.7)
1986-88 Monte Carlo SS (I would look into a 5.7 6 speed swap on this)
2004-2004 Mach 1 (More money, but can find good deals here and there)
2000's Ram Air Trans Am
Cadillac ETC
I have always loved the older 80's Monte Carlo SS's since I first saw one as a kid, if I got one I'd really wanna do a 350 (383?), a manual and some suspension work to really set it off. Turn it into a street legal Nascar LOL. Or keep it original and just do minor stuff and enjoy it for what it is (A gusty Cruiser... that I would still do a suspension on to lower and stifeen it up a little).
But as I have been reading up on Monties, I have kinda stumbled onto the Supercharged mid 03-04 models. I was at first put off as they are not the front engined rear drive muscle machines of the past... but the other thing is that I live on Colorado.. where it snows once in awhile. And while I wouldn't necessarily be driving it in the snow if I could avoid it... it would be a car that I could do that with pretty fearlessly, if I needed to press it into service as a DD while another vehicle was down. Plus it seems like there is a thriving aftermarket for that 3800SC mill and an active community (Read "you people")... and they JUST...LOOK...SICK. I mean honestly...
Damn things just embody bad *** and they have curves in all the right places... a very eye catching car... At least to me.
But this too....
I mean damn.
Anyways, I digress. The FF situation of the Supercharged SS makes it ideal for an all climate fun car... and she looks the part plus the Drivetrain would have to simply be modded to change it's attitude, as opposed to swapped out as I feel I would want to do with the 305 powered Monte. I think it is something the wife could enjoy too and I would not be scared to put her behind the wheel.
But to those that own them... are they (3800 SC Cars) fun to drive? How do they handle (Does it exhibit typical FWD understeer cornering at speed?. etc...)? How is the reliability? How long have you had yours? What about the back seat? Is it useful? I have two daughters (2-6) would they be comfortable back there?
And to the owers of the venerable 80's models, is the 305 really "Gutless" in these? I know they hopped it up from a normal 305, but how does it respond to mods? I know the long stroke and small bore kinda limit it (At least from what I have read... on the internet).
Anyways, I hope to become part of your discussion here on this forum and look forward to learning about your cars from the horses mouth weather I buy one down the road or not.

The supercharged monte's were made in 04 and 05 the pics you pasted look's like the 02 signature series. it is not supercharged. In 04 GM produced 2 driver editions, one for Dale jr. and one for Dale Sr. They are both supercharged and have been popping up lately for around 8 to 10 grand depending on the condition. I hope this help's

I don't think I would regret this car... but that is why I am doing my due diligence before I buy. I am being thorough this time around. I had a 3rd gen F-Body that I didn't do enough research on before I bought.
