Default New here (Kinda)

Hey I'm new here. Been stocking around the forum for awhile though. I got a 04 L67 Monte, been having some issues with it though. The fuel pump went in it and it had been sitting for a few months. I got it fixed about a week ago, and now everytime I start it up it stalls out. I can get it fired again, but its rpms are really jerky. They go from 300 up to 2000 until it warms up, then it runs like it should. Any advice as to what's wrong?

Hi Spiked and welcome to the forum (kinda if you've been lurking lol)

Is your car throwing any codes? this will help narrow down the problem. If it has been sitting I would first check the MAF sensor and clean it with a can of cleaner designed specifically for the MAF sensor. The starting and then stalling out sounds like a fuel regulator problem, I can't think of the exact name at the moment but I have had the same problem with mine in the past and it was something along those lines I am certain there are others here that know the name of the part that I am thinking of right off hand, but for some reason I am drawing a blank at the moment but I was up late last night partying with friends which probably has something to do with my brain isn't firing on all cylinders.

If you have access to a code reader check for codes, but if I remember correctly when mine was doing the same thing it wasn't throwing any codes which made it difficult for the garage I was going too, to actually diagnose the problem.

Worst case put up a post in the engine and transmission section of the forum so that more people will see the problem you are having and it will probably help you get a response quicker.

Have a good day

My first question is, did these starting issues happen immediately after the new pump OR was this an issue starting before the pump died.

If it's immediately after the pump swap, then I wonder if a line/tube is kinked or if the new pump is faulty. That's where I would start.

If this developed shortly after, then it may not be related to the pump. I'd check some things like the IAC, make sure that's not gummed up, get MAF cleaner spray and clean the MAF. Consider some basic maintenance (if it hasn't been done already). Things like fuel filter, air filter, plugs and wires.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Its not throwing any codes, and I don't think its the new pump. I'll have to check the MAF sensor. Do you think old gas would have something to do with it?

Depends on how "OLD" the gas actually is.. How long was it sitting?
Is it low on gas/fuel? Maybe its sucked up a bunch of gunk/dirt in the bottom of the tank? I might also lean towards a dirty clogged fuel filter....

Could also be dirty injectors.... (a cpl) possibly from bottom of the tank residue? Maybe throw in some injector cleaner the next time you fill it up?

Pls let us know what you did to resolve the issue!
Thanks for joing the MCF Family!!!

@STUMPMI

Its at a quarter of a tank rightnow and the gas that's in the tank is from the middle September. So about 2 months now.

I did notice the antifreeze was running low today, so I topped it off, but I don't think that had anything to do with it. The oil is fine also. I let it run until it had warmed up and took it for a spin around the neighborhood and it stalled out. I was able to get it running again and brought it it back home. I let it run for half and hour or so and it was fine.

I'm stumped

That really does sound like a dirty injector. If it will run for a half hour at idle but stalls when you drive it around. Don't you think stumpmi?

Edit: just on a side note if you haven't checked the coolant elbows might be a good thing to check if you keep losing coolant.

Yeah I thought the elbows might need to be replaced, but I looked and they were fine. It is leaking coolant a little bit cause there's a tiny puddle on my garage floor... fun fun. By the way, where are the injectors located? (Sorry I just can't think rightnow."

I thought my elbows looked fine too

Best bet is to replace then with aluminum. And like stumpu said use injector cleaner in your fuel maybe first.

If you check and follow the fuel rail... That's what they are hooked up to.
