Question New to group need help

Hello, my son owns a 1998 monte carlo, I believe a v6 automatic. anyway, he ran it out of gas, and after putting gas in it, it won't start. It turns over and sounds like it is going to start, but isn't getting fuel. Normally I would spray some starter fluid in the carbuerator but I can't find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't find anything on line either, and am about to pull my hair out trying to get this car started.

Sounds like it could be a clogged fuel filter ?

When the tank was low on fuel it could have picked up debris. Or, it could be a bad fuel pump ?

Is anyone in your family or do you have friends that are mechanic's ?

Check back to see what our expert tech's post on your problem. Good Luck

Below is a vid that may help in determining a bad fuel pump

With it being a 98 it is probably fuel injected and you will not have a carburetor. There are fuel injectors and they could be clogged with crud as well as the fuel filter. I would change the fuel filter first and see what that does for you.

I would have to go with changing the fuel filter, its never good to run your car low on gas that's when it starts to pick up the trash out of the bottom of the tank then it clogs the filter

Fuel filter is on the passenger side about under the seat use caution when removing the fuel line so you don't twist it when trying to replace it. Also if the fuel pump is still working when you turn the ignition on you should be able to hear it BUZZZZZZZZZZ.
I have seen guys spray starting fluid into the Air intake near the top of the engine, but I don't recommend that trick.
