Unhappy low coolant light and temperature gauge rising

put a new water pump on after coolant leaking from what seemed to be the timing chain housing, after that the car starts overheating.put original pump back on still same issue car never got as hot as it is now which is 1 line before the red.also when revving the car in park and it slows down its making a pop sound from the exhaust.its a 2002 with a 3.4

After you put the 1st water pump (new) did the coolant leak stop ? Overheating can be caused by a air pocket in the system, there is a bleeder screw on one of the coolant hoses , should be able to open screw and let air out while its running. As for the popping sound out of the exhaust when you rev the engine, worst case senerio would be a burnt exhaust valve. Good luck

no the leaking got worse so put the old one back on and with new gaskets still shows low coolant light and still getting hot,as far as the pop sound just replaced air mass sensor

These engines the 38 & 3400's will do this when you have an upper and lower intake manifold gasket that needs replacing. I had the same issue in a GM vehicle and once I replace that it took care of it.

Also remember to bleed the system of bubbles once you replace the water pump. The pressurized system has bubbles in it and it will casue the overheating too.
Hope you solve it.
