Just bought a '99, first Chevy.
Hey guys, I just bought a '99 with 169k for 1,400. It was dark out but the car ran and drive and primarily I was going there for a sub $1,000 car, and it was the nicest there. I needed a car to replace my '93 Lincoln Mark VIII for the winter, I need time to fix it and this was running! I've brought back the Mark from death, and learned almost everything there is to know about it. That said, the only thing I know about this is that it shares the 3.1 in my moms Century.
How is the upgrade market for this? Engine mods, tuning, etc. For example the Mark owners run Cobra spark plug wires, Thunderbird suspension components, focus svt fuel pumps, etc. What should I look for with 169k on it? Its really nice but I suspect it may have some electrical problems (i.e blinkers are intermittent when brakes pressed, etc). I'm not a forum noob so I will be searching before I ask any stupid questions.
Any performance sites/vendors you guys deal with? We have Lincoln Motorsport to deal with parts for the Marks.

RE: Just bought a '99, first Chevy.
the interior looks as if its in great shape.. or atleast clean.
but interms of mods i wouldnt do anything except for things that can help it run better. such as the intake and exhaust, new plugs, mayby fix any wiring issues with eletrical then get some led interior lights, and hid headlights.. it woudl be a nice 170k mile car if you ask me.
im in the same situation. i gotta find a car sub 2000. thinking if i want some chevy or gm product liek yours, or jsut pick up something off the side of the road...like a foreign pos.
i can only find brakes and suspension for your car. so good luck

I saw an intake on ebay for like 15 bucks, does anyone here have any recommendations on an intake with possibly a larger maf? And what is there in terms of exhaust, just a cat and a muffler or do they have a stupid resonator like the Mark does? The mark has 2 monitored cats for emissions, a 3rd unmonitored cat, and a resonator, then 2 mufflers....what do we have here? Oh and its the LS 3.1 if I didn't say before.
Also, do bodyparts interchange from 96-99? Particularly I like the front bumper covers on the 97 ss which I beleive had the foglights, no?
My hids are 9005 from the Mark but they'll be going into the 9006 lowbeams in the Monte tonight.

Welcome to the forum Rev.
I had very good luck with the 3.1 litre engine in one of my previous cars. Very reliable engine, for me anyway.
I've seen some body kits for the 5th gen Montes. Some better than others. The 3.1 engine was used in many different GM models, so that may help in your search for engine mods.
