Default Just bought first Monte Carlo

Hi, I just bought my first Chevy, and it was an 06 Monte Carlo 3.5l LT, fully loaded. I decided to research the times and stuff for it, but people keep saying they cant hit 6 seconds on a 0-60 with the 3.9 and 5.8 ones, although mine seems to go 0-60 in about 6 pretty good. What's the deal on this? Are my numbers messed? I just timed it on a general flat road from a complete stop.

Arrow Welcome

Welcome NewMonte to the MCF

Tell us more about your 06 Monte LT. How did you time
your 0-60 MPH time ? What is the source of your
research on the times that you obtained on the 3.9L ?
Did you buy your Monte to race ?
Look forward to your future posts.
Good Luck, and safe miles in your Monte.

I timed it mainly by just counting, it isnt exact but its still a good second or more better than what others say. That and I found some youtubes of stock 3.5 LTs doing the same thing, and almost every car magaziine online gives the 3.9l a 7-something second 0-60 with the 5.3L being needed to hit 6 seconds.

I bought this as my first car newer than a 96 camry, that and a 95 Escort, and a 98 Escort are all I've ever driven. I was hoping to do some racing with it as I love cars and speed but I've noticed this thing has almost zero aftermarket parts, and after reading up on foreign cars they look like the better option for peformance tuning. Regardless, I'm don't really have the extra cash to upgrad enow anyway, the most I could get away with is a few hundred bucks. Maybe I could buy 1 performance tire and use it as my spare =)

Hi Member: NewMonte,
I know that performance mod's are limited on the 3.5L, but
they still are a strong V6 engine.
Speed cost, no matter what you drive, and speed/racing on the
streets can cost more then $'s : (
What's a second or two....
One & Two

The Monte Carlo is a Super Touring Coupe that has many
features over the competition, and with the 3.5L you get
real decent power, plus better MPG.
Saves money to drive ZomeWhere 2 have `fun : )

I get my speed thrills going to the GoKart Tracks and
racing my BeachBum Friends : )
No More Street Rac'in Tickets

There are many mod's in appearance that you can do 2 your Monte:
Like Rims/Tires, sound systems, Mod Front & Rear Lights,

Tint, etc.
Would love 2 C pictures of your Monte.
Be happy to be driving a late model Monte, and enjoy.

Look 4-ward to your future `post, and hopefully seeing
some pictures. Good Luck

I kinda wanted to up the performance, don't care about looks. I can't afford rims or tires, but what are these body mods you mentioned? Have links?

So yea, any performance mods at all? Is chipping worth it? Also, I have a $2000 warranty on this car I added, should I just leave it alone and trade it in at a later date for an Impreza WRX or some other fast car?

HI Member `NewMonte,
You would have 2 put many $'s into a 3.5L to get close
to the power of a WRX.<~4-Sure : )

Only you really know your `need 4 power/speed
I've found that there is always someone faster `out
there on your highways of `life.
Your $'s, your time...Keep researching, and test driving
the cars of your dreams, & it pays to do your homework b-4
you sign on the dotted line.
I really think the 3.5L is a great engine, but it does not
have that many mod's 4 it : (
I would suggest driving your Monte & Enjoying `it, or
attempt to trade it for a faster ride...like a V8 Monte SS : )
Good Luck

Well I bought this thing in like-new condition with 45k miles on it fully loaded (6 disk changer, XM radio, everything) for a final price including warranty, financing, costs, ect. for $12.9 grand so I got a great price and wasn't really looking to get a new sports car but I had thought this would be faster or more upgradeable.
