Default irratic idle

1997 monte carlo ls, v6, 3100. Idle is very irratic. Sometimes it sputters like water in the gas. Sometimes after driving awhile it will not start at all, then after it cools down it may start and idle at over 3000 rpms on its own....help

Hi Ray.
I agree with space, sounds like dirty fuel injectors from cheap gas. Seafoam is THE best injector cleaner on the market. Trya can, and mash the gas pedal whenever you can to help flush them out. Not using your gas pedal is hard in fuel injectors, as they need to be flushed.
The high idle concerns me. That's unusual and not typical of dirty injectors.
Water in the gas isn't the problem it used to be with carb'ed engines, but still can be issues. Try to avoid gas with ethanol, as it can by law contain higher amounts of water.
Anyone else with thoughts?

make sure when you do run the seafoam though that you run it through the vacume line too (a 1/3 of the can) you can pour the other 2/3 in the gas tank, then let it sit for 10 min and start it up and rev the snot out of it....then take it for a drive like you stole it

thats what the sea foam does without having to pull it...mind you it probably doesn't clean it as well as pulling it...but you can get spray sea foam for that that you just spray right in....its called deep creep
