Intermittent hesitation & Check Engine Light

Greetings group,
Getting ready for a drive in my 2004 3.4L Monte Carlo to St. Louis. And in August a 972 mile drive to Bentonville Arkansas .
Before replacing the EGR (was plugged) I would experience an intermittent hesitation with the cruise set on at freeway speeds. After replacing EGR I notice the car is "peppier" and went from 340 on a tank to 0ver 400+ on a tank using regular fuel (87 octane).
The intermittent hesitation has improved. But I still experience this from time to time. I reviewed this issue with my trusted local mechanics. They gave me a can of this fluid that is professional grade ans is supposed to clean my injectors. When I poured that into my almost empty tank I willed the tank with Super gas (93 Octane). I am watching my mileage like a Hawk to determine and mileage changes using Super vs Regular gas.
Also, even though I replaced the EGR. My Check engine light is on. And the code that pops up is for the EGR, although it has been replaced.
Thanks in advance!
