Can any body tell me how to install an aux jack for my 2002 monte Carlo. It's got the original radio with a CD and cassette? The things I've seen on U-tube shows the older style radio from like 1999.
I'd like to keep the original radio since it controls my Fob, oil life etc. Thank you.

 

The cheapest/ easiest way IMO is a FM modulator. You plug the modulator into power (cig lighter), select an open FM radio channel (most have several choices to ensure you've got an open band), and then you plug the aux cable from it into your device.

 

I think they make cassette tapes with a 3.5mm jack coming out of it

 

I have seen a variety of mods.
- Some people found ways to add an aux jack and override all audio (plug into the jack and send audio to the pre-amp in the radio, cutting off all other audio). This is more common in older radios. I have seen some radio companies that offer this mod.
- Some tie into the audio for the cassette, CD or if you have XM. XM is the easiest mod. If you use the cassette or CD, you are now stuck running a cassette or CD (as the device needs that to engage that sound input). XM, you tune to XM and there it is. But XM was not offered until 2003 if I recall. And if you want to do what I did in my 2004, I have a radio that supports XM and added the receiver (big under taking).

Now, as mentioned, easiest method, invest in a cheap FM modulator. They are cheap and do work very well.

 

 

Yep, something like that should do the trick for you. Cheap and easy.

 

They work good. They allow phone hands free talking.

Years ago I had a couple FM transmitters that had a lot of static and fading. Next I went to the wire into stereo which worked good for my daughter. I still have one that I was going to install in my 05 Impala but didn't get it done. It won't work in my Monte Carlo.

Saw one of these for less than $20 so I tried it on my Monte Carlo. Just bought another for my Equinox which already has the auxiliary jack. Less hassle as they connect via bluetooth. All you have to do is plug it in and select the station. Don't have to fish out the cord and plug it in.

Note, I do not leave it plugged in. It will sometimes cause my door lock remote to not work.
