When you replaced the IAC was the depth of the pintle valve checked and adjusted prior to installing it? It should protrude 1 1/8" from the mounting flange so it conforms properly to the passage in the throttle body. If it wasn't adjusted properly it won't be able to accurately meter the air flow. An accumulation of carbon deposits on the pintle valve seat could also cause erratic idle.

How is the pintle in the IAC adjusted? Do I need any special tools? And would it matter that I put the new one in about 2500 miles ago?
I'm picking up s new gasket for the TB today so I can remove and clean it. I figure I can take care of the IAC Pintle at the same time. B-)

Ideally, the length adjustment is made prior to installing the new IAC, but with the minimal amount of miles you've put on it I don't think you will damage it by checking/adjusting it now. The reason they suggest not to adjust a used IAC is because of the deposits that build up on it over time. No special tool required to make the adjustment. Butt your rule up against the mounting flange and if the pintle valve exceeds 1 1/8" just push in on it with your finger until it measures 1 1/8".

 

I would really get it smoked tested for vacuum leaks.

 

Thanks guys! I have never messed with a IAC before so this info helps tremendously. I am going to vheck for vacuum leaks as well. Although I do not want to take the dash apart, I think that if there is a leak my climate control may be part of the problem. It will not change where the air comes from. It's a never ending battle to keep our Babies operating at peak performance. I for one am glad this site is available! B-)
