Default Gauge or cluster problem ? Help!!

I bought this car with intent to fix up but can not figure out this problem. When I start the car it goes crazy sometimes takes a min to start and the gauges go on and off for sometimes 10 mins before they stop and then everything is just like normal like nothing was wrong.

What year is your Monte? The 2000-2005 Montes have a known issue with the gauges going bad. I had my temp gauge do that. Scared the heck out of me when I saw my temp gauge had gone past maximum.
