Default Fuel Gauge

I pulled my dash last week to replace PRNDL switch. Now my fuel gauge is at 3pm position. It was working before I pulled the cluster. On the back of the gauge there is a center post that looks like a wire would go there but I do not recall removing one. Does anyone know what color that wire is or does it get its signal from the cluster plug?

Thank you

1971. gauge was working , pulled back apart yesterday and found 12 volts to one terminal and if I ground the other one (terminal 7) it goes to empty. Back fed the cluster plug on #7 and grounded it and gauge went to empty. I will pull wire at sender and see what happens when I ground it . Just weird it all of a sudden stopped working

Electrical problems are like that; everything seems fine then… Think light bulb. It's kinda digital; it either works or it doesn't.

I finally had time to tackle this issue. Tested tan wire to sender(as it goes through the trunk) to ground and gauge and circuit function normally. Checked and cleaned tank ground and still gauge not reading. Dropped the tank and replaced the sending unit and all good now.
