Default dual exhaust 3.4

whats up my people. This is my first time on here. pretty happy I found this site, cause when ever I have questions about my car no one seems to know anything. Anyway, I Have a 2004 Monte Carlo LS. I want to get a dual exhaust installed. Main thing I'm going for is better fuel economy. As far as sound goes, I'm happy with it being quite. But wouldn't mind a little deep sound. Nothing to loud, trying to stay on the quite side. From what I hear, a Y-pipe does no good and is only for looks. is that true? if so I don't what that.
any suggestions?

You aren't going to improve your gas mileage by switching to a dual exhaust.

There probably isn't room in your firewall or under your car to run collectors and pipes for a true dual. Nor would there really be a need on your engine.

The y-pipe is how the SS has the dual exhaust look.

cool, thanks. that's good to know. what if I want to get an exhaust system to get a lil sound. Nothing loud, a little deep sound would be nice, definitely don't want anything obnoxious.

If you want to just get a little sound, have any exhaust shop put in a Y-pipe, driver side hanger and mufflers.

About how much should all that cost? I've never had exhaust work done and this sounds like exactly what I want but I have no idea how much I should be prepared to spend.

Depends on the shop. You could get a hanger put in for like $20-$30 and then buy yourself a cat-back exhaust kit and put it on yourself $550

A shop should be able to do it for around $350 I think? All depends on the mufflers and tips chosen, etc. etc. Doesn't hurt to call around.

I looked into it last week here in Chicago and one shop wanted 450 for 2 mufflers and 2 tips and another shop wanted 250 for 1 muffler, 2 tips. If you have the money and the space underneath not affecting the gas line then go for 2 mufflers. These were 40 series flowmasters that I was referring to also.
