Default Car repair

jpc8854 I'm a new member got 2004 monte I brought brand new in Oct 2003. Had a few problems over the years. Maintained the car good has 163.000 miles on it. relace parts of course over the years. Anyway, to make a long story short. Cruise control went out don't work. Don't have a clue where to start looking. Steering wheel switch goes on it lights on and off wont in gage, don't know where to start. Any suggestions I don't have a clue. Anyone Thanks Need Help with this. Can't spend a bunch a money 80-year-old living on SS. The car has sentimental value to me.

Its a long shot but check the cable. I have no idea where to start either but there is a safety factor now because if the cable is damaged and stuck 'closed', it can let loose and get stuck 'open', aka partial or even full throttle.

This happened to me after the previous owner installed a faulty stereo amp power wire. It melted the outside of the cable and over time it started to rust the metal structural part of it. It ended up getting stuck just as the cruise control accelerated.
