Hey, new to the site, was looking for information on a new motor for my daughters new car.
She has had it one week, bought second hand from Craigslist in Whislter. BC
Looked good , everything ran, no clunks, min damage on car, good deal for 2500 $ unfortunately one her way home. In passing gear she heard a bang, crack or crack bang not sure the order, regardless it blew a hole in the oil pan.
We had it towed home and her dad spent hours trying to get the one little bolt off to take the oil pan off. frustrating as hell he said........ in his finding he found metal in the pan, bits and parts.
A Blown Piston is suspected.
So now I have this useless paper weight in my yard......


any ideas, motors she could use to exchange it, were not sure how bad the damage is, it was started for about 30 sec after to hear it, only to have it gurgle and stall..... its a 03 SS.. btw.....

 

That scares me since I just bought my 03 SS off of craigslist

 

Im not sure how you can avoid it, Was nothing Obvious when we bought it, just had a oil change done, I wonder after reading about the spark plugs if they were wrong? ill have to pull on and see or find her service sheet... I hope yours lasts longer then a week.

 

3.8 you can get a new motor from GM if you want to spend the money

Yea I looked up a crate motor there too much. she paid same amount for the car........... Maybe she will let her brother modify it, he's just finished putting a whole dodge Dakota into a 67 skylark, pretty cool how some stuff fits in.
This is no good to us, if anyone wants parts from it, maybe she can get her monies worth out of it... every thing is there............. pic a part.

 

We have lots of parts if you need them.

 

Or you can go on ebay and get a used engine.

 

there is tons of these engines in all local junk yards for cheap. any vehicle with the 3800 non supercharged will work as the engines them selves are the same. may have to swap a bracket and or use her old upper intake but that would be about it. i say get a junk yard engine cheap and do an engine swap.

not sure where you are from but if your local to me by slim chance i would be willing to help you guys do the swap.

Engines here are not so easy to come across. Here, without driving 100's of k too get there- take it out and bring it back -
Ebay is just a risky as craigslist .
She has someone looking for a new engine .
A Shop wanted to sell her a motor with 110,k for 1000.
But what are the chances of it happening again .
So its not going to be removed yet,
we are just going to look at a brand
New car without issues.
She drove a total of 250k and it blew out!
Ironically a movie shoot offered buddy 2500 plus 500 to deliver it to the shoot -.they told him it would get wrecked - too bad its not running !
It will be taken out by her bro and we will see what needs to be done , and sell it i guess when its running nice .. So tempting to part it out..but then we have more parts and car"cus"s ! Have a nice day --

 

Put 3800 motor into your search engine. There are plenty of reputable shops that will have new and used 3800. Don't give up. The 6th gen monte is a good car.
