Yes you can install a supercharged 3800, they are a direct fit in most regards. You will need a pcm from a supercharged motor, or a tune on your current pcm, as well as other goodies. Here is a link to a write up from another member that did an L67 swap in his monte, it is very detailed with lots of pics but it will give you a great idea of how to do it.

They are the same motor from the heads down, but run different on the top end. So they bolt up the same and you don't need a new tranny, unless you have a donor car with a hd tranny, or with less kms, and you want to swap it. You can usually find the cars with motors and trannies (in my area fairly cheap) and if you can do it yourself it won't be that bad of a cost. These are great cars, my car currently has 290 000 kms on it and it runs like it was brand new. These engines are built to last, so I would question more about what the previous owner, did or didn't do to the motor to cause it to blow up like that. You can get a donor motor from an impala, grand prix, or monte carlo, I am not 100% certain about the buick regals, that came with these motors as well but they may also be a possibility

Sorry to hear of the really bad luck with the monte. It still might be worth getting fixed cause normally these engines last a pretty long time. I have had mine for about 2 years and 3 months and I have put about 60,000 miles in that short time with nothing much to the engine.

Going with a GM part is Great because of the Warranty. I just got my Trans Rebuilt. 3 years/ 50k miles warranty. It's a good thing to have on such a major component!
And the 6th gen, or any gen in good condition is worth the investment in Driving Pleasure!

So a new Super charged means new emission control module and new tranny ? Maybe better if she gets the one made for it . Its going to gouge her savings which is limited to just the engine. Where do the engines come from ? Directly from a gm or thru a dealer?

Yes a supercharged engine will require a new PCM as it will have to be tuned to run with the supercharger. If she is buying a new crate motor I would enquire if it is included, or if they can just program the current one. GM Dealers can do all of that at the shop with their programmers. Any one that I know that her purchased a gm crate motor has always gone through the dealership, as I'm not 100% certain how the warranty would work if it was installed by a non gm dealer, which is something to investigate prior to purchasing, just to cover yourself/herself.
No she will not need a new tranny, the existing one will work just fine as the supercharged cars, come with the same tranny. Some of them were available with a heavy duty tranny, but not all came with them from the factory. She can purchase a kit for her tranny to turn it into a heavy duty tranny here
ZZPerformance - 4t65e HD Upgrade Kit #ZZ-4T65EUPK
it costs $400 so it's much cheaper than a new tranny

The difference in the trans between the S/C and N/A motors is the final gear and the passenger side axle. You don't have to swap out the hole Transmission! The S/C has a 2.83 final gear ratio where the N/A has a 3.29 ratio!
