Another newbie, checking in
Greetings from Tennessee,
I am beginning a search for my wife a new driver. Some background: for many years my wife has driven ricers(not that there is anything wrong with that). There has long been some light teasing from me over her choices.
She took over my old camaro when we first got together, then drove it less than a year before she traded it in on a 300zx. When she wore that one out, she went to a 3000gt and has stuck with those for the last 3, including two spyders. Although she is very capable of making her own choices & spending $$ any way she sees fit, I have tried for years to get her to move to a chevrolet. I once even tried to get her into a mustang... but that is another story. RWD has always been an sticking point, she insists she has to have FWD or AWD.
We recently rented a Monte Carlo to take on vacation.....and I believe we finally found something to pry her away from her spyder.
After a cursory look around eBay and Auto trader...I believe we can find one with the mileage reasonably(to me) low and in our price range, which in the end are large factors in our choice.
Before I bought my last enthusiast-type car, I first got on a forum & tried to educate myself, same deal when we bought her first 3kgt spyder. That plan seemed to work pretty well so now I'm here to educate myself about Monte Carlos & what to look for as well as what, if anything, to avoid.
She uses her car as a daily driver but we both agree cars are made to be driven ....as well as... seen from an aesthetic point of view. On a rare occasion, we can clean up either the corvette or the spyder & put them in a car show. We don't do it a lot, but it is a nice option. So she thinks ..& I agree, the Monte Carlo seems to be tailor-made for the way she uses her present car, a real world commuter that cleans up nice for the show or just to road trip. I have seen enough MC's with huge mileage on them that they must be pretty long lived & dependable, I guess that is another thing I am here to find out. I have on occasion noticed nice Monte Carlos at the car shows & we both liked the appearance but had no idea how they were to drive, till this recent trip.
I will look around a couple days and see which of my questions I can answer for myself just from perusing old threads. However, if I have a stupid question (ie. what years were major suspension refinements made?) and don't find the answer somewhere in the old threads.... I will ask again, regardless of how silly I feel for not finding it for myself.

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully MCF will aid in your future buying decision.
One this to remember (and I think you are already well aware), each car has its quarks. No make/model is perfect (otherwise it would catch on and everyone would own one).
