Welcome, I would assume you most likely rented an 06 or 07. They are nice and if you get the V8 SS, still gets great mileage. Maybe if you can come up with some specific questions, we may be able to help. Lots of really smart MC guys here.

Welcome, the Monte will be a comfortable commute car, rides nice handles even better. The wide stance, low profile she just slips through the air and around hairpin curves. You wont see so very many at car shows is seems like, but this is the rarity attraction, people will come over and scope out your Monte because there are not a dozen like them right next to you. In my opinion they have the NASCAR appeal to many people. Keep her halfway squared away and it wont take but a handful of hours to get her ready for a car show. Plus there are many mods available for this platform to make them contenders against the Ricers...........I had an 04 Subi STI and my Monte would chew it up after the build. So hopefully you can find a special one, stay on top of your maintenance schedule for the engine and tranny fluids and hook up your wife with a great commute car. Every Rose has it's thorn they say, but these are Special Roses.

Welcome to the Monte Carlo Forum. This is a nice friendly family type site. The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked. I'm not really a Chevy guy but got a very rare Monte which is how I found my way here. The best advice I can offer is from what I have learned here. Look for the newest gen Monte. The SS seems to have the best engine with least problems. A supercharged one might have been beat on and transmissions seem to be an issue. Get one with low miles and get the trany serviced and do it every 30,000 miles to hopefully avoid the cost of a rebuild. Most of the other issues are minor but if left unfixed the list of needed repairs can grow quickly.
