never one to try and talk someone out of a monte, but i think bang for buck and performance you could always get a regal gs for butt cheap. its goin to have leather and all the other bells and whistles, the 3.8sc, and its a sleeper if ive ever seen one. its got that extra set of doors and oldman look but all the gtp stuff works on them and some wheel and what not on it and it can be cool and quick.i would definitely get the supercharged motor. if not all thats going to happen is your going to wind up doing a top swap. why not get one with the blower on it already? the performance difference is pretty big and once you swap pullies and what not its going to be even bigger of a performance difference. your only young once so go for it.

Reason #3 - At 16, you need real world driving experience not a fast car (not that a Monte is super fast, but it is super nice - reread reason #1), that'll just get you or someone else killed.

Good pointers. My beater car cost $70 a month for insurance, partial coverage. Which is cheap compared to the $140 for Lucy. Even though I dont feel safe in the beater, it does feel good not to worry about hitting a pot hole, where to park, etc. Some times I think I want to give the monte a break (and me) and drive the beater. Beaters are nice, they have their good points and bad points. Though find one that wants a home and not one that wants to die with you in it. Keep in mind when (or if) buying a beater that it may cost you money. Not that I've been through a transmission, fuel pump, fuel sender, gas tank, brake lines, wind shield etc. After a period of months you might start thinking thats it's cheaper to just buy a new car. My dad said "Well your car new car is going to have problems too".... The only problem is the Auto sensor wont turn on in the mirror. Good come to those who wait, Im sure you will love and appreciate your car (and it will towards you) if you have a good year down of driving and money down. Every thing happens for a reason.

Hey I'm new to the forum as well. I bought a 2004 Monte Carlo SS 3.8L when i turned 17 a year and a half ago. Up until today, I have always driven it and never wanted another car. It is fast, but not too fast. I have yet to get into an accident or get a ticket (thanks to a radar detector). If you do buy a 6th gen, the SS is a good way to go. Great car, always getting looks, people always come and ask me what my car is when i go to car meets, even though it is entirely stock (that will change soon). No problems with the car, lots of power even from the SS version with no supercharger. Great buy, you can put mods and upgrade it later on. I will be doing this soon, but I'm keeping it a sleeper, no exterior extras . Go with a Monte Carlo, its a good first car, and you won't regret it.
