Default 2000 Monte Carlo Service Engine Light

The light stays on that I need to service my engine. As far as anyone can tell nothing is wrong with my car. How do I get the light to go off and stay off? I was driving down the highway and heard the door latches go up and down and it went off until I went over a speed bump and it came back on. It has been on every since. This has been going for for about 6 months.

Just go to an advanced aouto parts or autozone store and have them scane your carr for you and they should be able to tell you what is casuing the light to go off

also it is free to get your car scanned.

have you changed your oil?
when you did it did you reset the oil minder?

also when you fill up the tank do you tighten the gas cap? at elast two clicks past tight so it is defently tight on there.

also check all fluids in the car i have seen low washer fluid trigger a service light.
our min van used ot do it for the rear window washer bottel (go figure like you can see the levels on it)

but make sure you check all fluids and also set the oil minder if you havent but make sure your oil is fresh or it will /could cause a false read on it.

yah if there's a check engine light on then there has to be something setting it off...go to an auto parts store than can do free checks on it..and that will tell you whats wrong..hopefully its just something simple

I think everyone covered that one pretty well. The only other thing I can think of is an O2 sensor or a deteriorating CAT. Felt sluggish lately?
