Default 1988 Monte 4.3 2004R trans question

I'm building a 358 for it ( going to be pushing around 400hp ). It still up in the air on using the factory transmission. Some people say use it, and most others say it won't the 400hp I'm going to be throwing at it.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well I did some research clear back to 2010 and it appears that from what I read 400hp is pretty good to go. But I have no personal experience with it. You might want to speak with some Trans shops and get there opinion on it.

There definitely capable of handling high HP if built up. I personally don't know what a stock will handle, driving habits would determine that for you. Best bet is to get it built while the engine is out. Another thing you might want to consider is upgrading the driveshaft to a bigger size. Good luck
