03 monte carlo ss will not idle
I just joined hoping to get some help with my Monte. It just started having problems last week, and I'm tired of spending money. It runs fine going down the road with the exception of a miss or two. However, when its sitting still or in park, it will start to idle ruff and it will eventually shut itself off. I've replaced the following with no prevail: fuel pump and filter, resanator and catalytic converter, and also tried an injector cleaner. It's the 3800 series II - w/o super charger. FYI... no service engine light or codes are popping up. I would appreciate any help at this point. :confused

A good scan tool can get access to what cylinders are misfiring, that can certainly be of assistance.
Generically, the thoughts that come to my mind:
- Get MAF cleaner and clean the MAF sensor (it's screwed to the top of the throttle body with secuirty torx heads). Do NOT use other cleaners, stick with the MAF cleaner (less then $10 from the parts store).
- Change your plugs and wires. FYI - When changing spark plugs, do NOT use BOSCH plugs. They are crappy plugs (fail out of box OR don't last beyond 6 months).
- Change the air filter.
Hope this info helps.

Try un pluging your Mass air flow sensor..and see if that cures it.....your computer has a program in it for all the electronics, (like a back up file) Should this be the problem.... and this resolves it.. Then replace it or try cleaning it. (there not cheap)...But i wouldnt suggest driveing with it unplugged...Just do it as a test mode.....
But it sounds more like the TPS (throttle position sensor) U can also remove it clean it...and reinstahl it.. They do wear out....depending on how many miles u have on it . I would replace it.......I replaced both....after i fixed the MAP for the running issue..it still idled a little rough..so i replaced the TPS now it runs like new again!
I had the same problem with mine a cpl of months ago.....and that was what was wrong with mine...Good luck..hope this helps!!
I ended up buying a new one...Now im problem free!

I can give it gas when it starts acting up and it will straighten up for a minute and then go right back to acting up. It has 117,000 miles on it and this is the first problem I've had with it. I bought some MAF cleaner and new air filter today. Guess we will see what happens with that. Thanks to everyone for your help. I will keep you guys up to date on my progress.
