What should NASCAR do about qualifying when it is rained out?

So here is my question.. .and my father and I agreed on a solution that fits us the otehr day...
NASCAR has a good handful of qualifying sessions each season that are rained out. The points leader gets a freebie pole. I don't like that.
So my dad and I agree that NASCAR should adopt the IRL's rule, set the field by practice speeds.
Practice speeds are usually a semi-good reflection of qualifying anyway... so would that not be fair? It would keep the points leaders and all the top guys from getting free top qualifying spots.
But then there is the other possibilities, qualifying sometimes Saturday, or what I think.... qualify the morning of the race. If you wreck your car, then you better get your back up out and set up REAL quick.
Any other opinions?
