#32
It's Lee Roy Yarbrough. They ran it as a #26 for hte first part of the season and had a lot of bad luck. Junior Johnson was superstititious and decided that since 26 is a multiple of 13, that the number was cuasing bad luck (and if you study that season - Lee Roy really should have won Daytona, Atlanta, and other places, but mechanical issues and even NASCAR screwed them out of some wins). He got permission from NASCAR to switch to 98 halfway through the year, then won like 2-3 races. The next year, 1969, Lee Roy won more superspeedway races than anyone else had ever won to that point. He swept Daytona, Darlington (back when Darlington got two races a year), then won 1 race each at Charlotte, Atlanta, and Rockingham. 70 was a bad luck year that featured only one win, and by 71 Lee Roy and Junior split. Lee Roy went insane and died in a mental institution in 1980.
