Off Week Discussions
I've heard DW say several times that losing the rear bumper cover actually helps on the fast tracks cause it changes the way the air escapes from underneath the car and actually helps it handle better but at a short track it doesn't really do anything to help at those speeds. I remember in 2006 at Martinsville Jr was involved in an early wreck and they cut a whole half of the nose off and that car flew. Would have probably won but he got spun again at the end and still managed to come back for a top five I think. Wanna say he finished third. Now that fender being cut off helped big time by allowing air in to cool the brakes so he could charge into the corners a little harder. Denny has got to start these races though. Don't practice it or qualify it only get in it for the race and get out at the first caution or if its not a quick caution then get out after a few laps then let Vickers or someone get in. He's got to do this to have any chance of saving his season and making the Chase. Just get in and don't try and be competitive and risk getting in a wreck just hang at the very end of the field before he pits to get out.

I think the days of being big tough guy are over. ned jarretts story about a brace buipt for his back to finish the 65 season and win the title comes to mind. ned is paying the price today with therapy and pain. stories like fred lorenzen now suffering from a form of dementia caused by repeated blows and concussions early in life as well. i think dennys season is over, they arent going to risk messing him up, he could be a contender in this sport for 10-15 years. why keep pushing it?
Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day
It's an off week! Time to spend some quality time around Easter with the ones you love!!

This is the Petty family in 1968. AFter Petty won 27 races and a championship in '67, he was subject of many of Chryslers ads and they even wanted to capture soem of images of Petty away from racing and the track. This is one of the photos taken to portray Richard as a common man with a common family.
Scanned from Greg Fielden's NASCAR Chronicle.

Any chances Denny pulls off a hail marry and still makes the Chase? Remember if he has the most wins or second most wins and is in the top 11 to 20 in points he could get a wildcard. Basically to make it back into the top 20 that's what he will have to do is win races so does anyone think he can do it? Since its an off week he will only miss 5 races so I guess there is an outside chance he could make it. If he makes it what a story that would be. Talk about drama. Just another reason why I love NASCAR.
5 races, lets say an average finish of 14th... that's 150 points he will miss. I don't see him digging out of that hole to get to 20th place and getting enough wins to pull it off... stick a fork in him... he may win a race in 2013, but he'll be making his run for the 2014 title..
It seems like injuries and the such come in sets... Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin, nad Dale Earnhardt were within like 2 years.
Now, Dale Jr missed 2 races with a concussion, Nationwide driver Michael Annett has a dislocated sternum, now Denny Hamlin has a broken back....
