Some Rookie Debuts this weekend
Posted by admin & Space in NewsDrivers Seek Debuts At Nashville
Three more up-and-coming NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers will be on display at Nashville Superspeedway.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (No. 16 CitiFinancial Ford), a 21-year-old native of Olive Branch, Miss., who has his background in USAC and ARCA, will debut for Roush Fenway Racing.
Another ARCA alum, Tim Andrews (No. 31 Zona Health Chevrolet), 26, looks to do the same for Rick Ware Racing. Andrews’ father, long-time NASCAR crew chief Paul Andrews, will be atop the pit box for his son.
Brian Scott (No. 10 Dollar General Toyota), who drives full time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for Xpress Motorsports, hopes to make his NASCAR Nationwide debut in Braun Racing’s third entry.
Another 21-year-old, Scott got his start racing sprint cars in his hometown of Boise, Idaho.

For the second straight week, a trio of rookies is in top 10 led by Justin Allgaier in fifth. Brendan Gaughan is eighth and Scott Lagasse Jr. is 10th. Jason Leffler (fourth), who won his first career race at Nashville in 2004, leads the six ranked series-only regulars while Keselowski and “Iron Man” Jason Keller (ninth) round out the top 10.
No one should stay too comfy, thought. Only 32 points separate places 9 – 15.
Another up-and-comer is on the docket at Nashville. USAC and ARCA star Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will make his NASCAR national series debut for Roush Fenway Racing while Tim Andrews, son of long-time NASCAR crew chief Paul Andrews (who will oversee his son’s car at Nashville) will attempt to make his series debut for Rick Ware Racing.

Brad Keselowski back in step

A preseason title favorite who had a miserable start to his season, Brad
Keselowski fashioned what could be the start of his comeback with a season-best third-place finish at Texas. That result vaulted him into the top 10 in the standings for the first time this year (seventh).
He also won at Nashville the last time he was on this track, capturing his first career win last June.
He finds himself in a similar situation as last year. Outside the top 10 after the first four races, he was eighth after the fifth race in 2008 and stayed locked in for the rest of the season.
He spent a good deal of last summer in second place before finishing third.

Kyle Busch comes to Nashville off a win last week at Texas – his 23rd in 143 career races which moves him to seventh all-time – and he’s back to within striking distance of standings leader Carl Edwards at 38 points out. One would think he’s got momentum on his side. But one would be wrong. He’s never won at Nashville.
Actually, Nashville’s been an albatross for Busch. He’s got only one top-10 finish in six tries, a sixth-place in his first race there in 2004. Last year he captured the pole and led a race-high 125 laps but a self-inflicted wound, a spin on Lap 62, took him out of contention and he finished 16th.
Edwards, though, earned his nickname “Concrete Carl” thanks in large part to basically owning the track. He’s the all-time leader in wins with three and has finished out of the top five only once – last June when he was 13th.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Jeff Gordon can rest easy. He won again Sunday… the first time in 47 races.
The four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion held off teammate Jimmie Johnson the last 26 laps to win the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
This one, the 87th win of Gordon’s fabled career, was a dandy. It came on a day when a bunch of hard-charging drivers had the lead at one time or another.
