Link Allmendinger to drive Penske No. 22 Dodge for '12 - Dec 21, 2011 - NASCAR.COM

AJ ALLMENDINGER OF ALL PEOPLE????!!!?!?!!!!!

Wow, I thought he was just settling in and starting to run well for Petty, the move is a surprise to me. Although at Penske, he will have the best that Dodge can offer him, whereas at Petty, he would always play second fiddle to the big boy Jack Roush, so I can see why he would think a move is necessary...

So we then have to ask oursevles... would Kurt Busch be able to drive for Petty, considering that would make him basically a Roush driver? Roush fired Kurt Busch once in 2005.

Best Buy had announced a couple of days earlier that they would sponsor Matt Kenseth for 9 races, Carl Edwards for 2 races as primary sponsor, and be associated sponsors in the other races.

Wow that is a suprise, but prob a good move for AJ to get in a top ride instead of being low on the poll at Petty

I'd say AJ is in a good position to win races now. That team is top tier, but in a little turmoil with a lot of turnover right now. This is a promotion for AJ no doubt - he really got some solid sponsors behind him now.

I'm liking the looks of Penske these days.

RPM will likely grab Kurt. That would be the smart thing probably. Sorta. Kurt doesn't really fit the good guy image of the 43 to me, but they have had some real slouches in that car over the last decade or so. It sure would be neat to see the 43 winning again, but I don't know if I could cheer for Kurt. Especially after he lipped off to Dr Jerry Punch

I hear they really wanted Brent for the #22, but when I put forth my ultimatum that if he drove it, I would disqualify him for the MCF Fantasy Championship, he told Roger Penske exactly where he could stuff that contract.

But you know Brent, I do have a soft spot for Fords, and if you were driving an historic car for such an historic owner like Richard Petty... well.... I might have to pull back my ultimatum....

Weren't you a Petty fan, and your dad is the one who got the dirt from where Petty crashed in Atlanta in '92?

I'm a big Petty fan. My house was all about Petty growing up.

Here's a pic of me and my Firebird in Daytona a long time ago.

I don't remember the year but I was to young to drink in the US at the time, so it was near 20 years ago. I had the 43 STP plates back when nobody had custom plates.

Driving the #43 would be a bigger honor then the #22. Maybe I should call my old buddy The King up and tell him I'll take the gig...
