It's a Sunday edition of Classic NASCAR Photos of the Day!!!! In honor of the time honored tradition of "race day", I will post three photos.
These shots were from the 1973 Nashville 420.
One is of Buddy Bakers #71 Dodge (Bobby Isaac had retired earlier in the year in the middle of a race at Talladega, the others of Bobby Allisons #12 Laguna and Benny Parsons #72 Monte Carlo.....

Aw what the hell, I can be wrong 3 times in a day.
I have no idea why it was the Nashville 420.....
Years later, after Marty Robbins died, it was renamed the "Marty Robbins 420" for hte last few years they ran that track.
Robbins ran NASCAR and also sang country music.... drove a yellow and purple #42 car. He died of complications related to heart surgery in late 1982.

Right or wrong, this is great conversational stuff Duane! You could even defend yourself by saying you were wrong for the sake of stimulating conversation. I wish I had more knowledge to contribute to this kinda stuff. But I am listening and learning and will remember this stuff the next time around when we are discussing this 10 years later on the MCF again...

But thats when cars looked like cars!
Look how eye catching the Paint schemes are.
Even without seeing the actual lettering...The paint scheme alone tells you who the sponsor is.
