Default Is it cheating or fair when......

.....a NASCAR teammate pulls over and let's his teammatepass so that the teammate who is in the chase can earn more points.

Shouldn't the guy in the chase "earn" his points by racing for them?

I just finish reading an article that many fans are upset with this tactic and who are totally sick of "The Chase" format.

Very cute pic Dave! How old are they now?

As for the original topic...
I think it's b.s. the way they do that, but I understand why. It's track politics. And ina case where a driver needs the financial backing of the team, you gotta play the game. If the shoe was on the other foot, they'd expect the others to move over for him. In a perfect world, every driver would be independant of the other drivers. This would give you a fair, every man for himself, race. But the reality is racing is expensive, and unless you're winning a lot of races, or independantly wealthy, you need to pay your pit crew and buy parts and stuff.

Remember TAZ, I am the unofficial Grandpa of the unofficial Monte Carlo Forum.

I used to walk to school 40 miles in both directions, in the snow, UPHILL both ways before you were twinkle in your parents eyes.

Anyways, pulled some data off the net concerning single car teams:
No single car or owner/driver car has qualified for NASCAR's Chase for the Nextel Cup in the first four years. Of the six single-car teams running full time this year, only three are in the top 35 and guaranteed starting spots each week.

This isn't just in Nascar. They had the Grand Am series on Saturday and 2 Cadillac's won but the leader let the second place teammate win to get driver points.

With Nascar I look at it as 2 seperate races going on: 10 cars racing and 33 lap/traffic cars. Does anyone really care about the drivers not in the Chase? And that itself is the real problem - nobody cares about what is going on outside the Chase.

I think to make the sport more interesting they need to make the point system more complicated than it already is. Yeah I said it.

In all sports the final games are worth more - eg you mess up in the beginning of the season and it's no big deal. You lose 1 game in the play offs and you are out. Kinda the same thing with the Chase but also the previous cup series too. Howmany times was it that someone got so out of control with a points lead that all they had to do was show up to the race. And during this Chase series the closest I've seen was the leader just needed to finish above 17th place. It would be like a Superbowl senario - All you need to do during the game is score a field goaland it doesn't matter if they score 150 points, you still have sealed the win. Dumb.

To resolve this issue - take the current points as a base line, then 6 races in make them more valuable by adding 30 points or something to them: a win would be 210 points vs the 180 now. Then during the last 6 races double the points or something so a win would be 360 points. People in the back would all of a sudden have a chance if the leaders engine broke or something. No more having cars racing for no point at the end of the season.
