Default Window switch

Ok...I have the problem with the window switch like others have talked about. It finally got bad enough that I picked up a new one today on the way home from work. My question is....do I have to pull the door panel or does the arm rest piece that the switches stick out of pop up and out? I don't want to mess with it and crack the plastic so I'm hoping that someone here has already replaced theirs and can give me a clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you ever taken something apart and decided that the few extra tabs and one screw really were'nt necesary and some engineer was just trying to make a simple part fancy? Well.....the door panel does have to come off to remove one screw from the backside of the door panel when there are two large ones that hold the part in place along with one additional screw under the door handle. Lets just say that I "messaged" the piece out that the switch mounts to....removed the old switch...put it all back together and everything works great and it only took me ten minutes. To remove the entire door panel and everthing else.....who knows how long that would have taken! You can't even tell I had it apart! Thanks for your help.

Default RE: Window switch

I just replaced the drivers side electric window switch set on a 2001 MC SS. The switch was 55 bucks at a NAPA store. To get the switch out I did the following -

1. Take 2 torx head screws out of the door panel ( right where you put hand to close the door ).
Open the door and look up from the bottom to see these 2 screws - they are at a 45% upward angle.

2. Then unscrew a phillips screw that is in the outer part of this same handle insert - you will need to look straight up from below and need a light as the screw is receased.

3. This handle insert in in 2 pieces - the bottom piece can now be pulled down and out.

4. The top section is a little trickier. There are pressure clips on the front, back, left, and right to
help hold this in place. There is also 1 screw that goes into this unit from the rear ( through the
door panel ) Since I did not want to pull the whole door panel I just got a little rough with this uppper
section of the door handle insert and the post for the screw will break and let you wiggle the unit out.

5. Once out you can remove theelectric windows switch set - it is held in place by 4 pressure tabs.

The new switch will come with the rocker switches already on it - it allgoes back together in reverse order, and don't worry about the broken screw mount - the other 3 screws hold everything in place fine.
