Default Weird "sputering"

My car has never done this before. i was driving in the city and all of sudden my rmp started to jump, almost like i was hitng the rev limiter... did this twice in about one mins.

after that i floored it, accelerated as it norall does.. stay at some family's house for a bbq... just got back home, took the hwy and some city driving and no problem at all.

any ideas? i know this is kind of a shot in th dark as it could be anything, but has this ever happened to anyone else?

Was it just the gauge or was the engine speed actually increasing as well?

oh no the engine was def. doing it as well... not a cluster issue..like i said it felt like when you hit the rev limiter, just doing it a lil quicker. actually (not sure if your dumb enough to run out of gas, cause i am) feels just before your car is completely out of gas, which abviously i wasnt... cause i drove an other 20km back home after...
