Default water pump leaking

Can anyone tell me the process for changeing the water pump on my 2002 monte? Can I do this myself or do I need to take it to the dealer for repairs?

sorry I've got the 3.4. Does the timing belt run on the water pump?

No the the 3.1-3.8 have timing chains you don't need to go that far in, if i'm not mystaken the 3.4 is the easiest, just undo the belt shild belt, pully, pull off the bolts for the pump pull it out then clean and pop in the new one in

Water pump on both the 3.4 and 3.8 are easy (I'm a little more versed on the 3.4 as it's the same setup as the 3100's I've worked on). Hardest part of the job is getting the 4 bolts out that hold the pulley onto the pump.

The "timing" belt/chain is NOT part of the pump. You need to remove the serpentene belt (this can be done with a rachet with a pipe over it or breaker bar if you don't have tensioner lift bar). Once you can remove the 4 bolts holding the pulley on (easy to do if you have an air rachet), I believe there are 7 small bolts holding the pump in. Remove those bolts and the pump falls right out (may need to tap it with a block of wood and a hammer to break the gasket seal). Clean up the gasket surface on the engine and put it back together.

First time I ever did one, I think it took 30 minutes. Piece of CAKE, one of the quickest and easiest repairs on a 3100/3400.
